Interleukin-4 (IL-4) Inhibits Secretion of IL-lfl, Tumor Necrosis Factor a, and IL-6 by Human Monocytes
نویسنده
چکیده
Monocytes activated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and interferon y (IFNy) rapidly secrete a number of monokines with different functional properties. Interleukin-4 (IL-41, a T-cell derived cytokine, has been shown to reduce the production of monokines with cytostatic activity for tumor cells, chemotactic activity for monocytes, and factors that stimulate thymocyte proliferation. This latter activity is mediated by a number of monokines like IL-1, tumor necrosis factor a (TNFa), and IL-6. To elucidate which cytokines produced by monocytes are controlled by IL-4, we tested the effect of IL-4 on the secretion of IL-1 a, IL-la, TNFa, and IL-6 induced by LPS or IFNy. IL-4 was found to inhibit the secretion of IL-1s and TNFa by activated monocytes

A Survey on the Role of Interleukin-10 in Breast Cancer: A Narrative
Interleukin (IL)-10, a multifunctional immune-regulatory cytokine with both immunosuppressive and anti-angiogenic functions, is produced by immune cells including macrophages, T lymphocytes, and natural killer cells. Among other effects, IL-10 promotes tumor cell proliferation and metastasis via immunosuppression. Interleukin-10-mediated immunosuppression is aided by synthesis of tumor necrosis...

Abstract Background and purpose: Different laboratories have considered different maturation factors for producing human dendritic cells (DC) from peripheral blood monocytes. In this study, we comprehensively investigated the effect of adding poly (I:C) to standard maturation stimulus, i.e. MCM and TNF-α on the induction of T cell response. Materials and methods: Peripheral blood monocytes ...
متن کاملEffect of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and interleukin-3 on interleukin-8 production by human neutrophils and monocytes.
Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is a major neutrophil chemoattractant and functional stimulant that is induced by IL-1, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha), and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). We report that recombinant human (rh) granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and rhIL-3 are also potent inducers of IL-8 messenger RNA (mRNA) accumulation and protein secretion by normal peripheral ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Brain Natriuretic Peptide, Tumor Necrosis Factor and Interleukin-6 Plasma Levels in Infants and Children with Congenital Heart Disease
Background Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause of major congenital birth defect. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of CHD with serum levels of Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), and B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) in infant and children. Materials and Methods The present study was conducted in Heshmat heart hospital and 17 Shahrivar...
متن کاملInterleukin 10(IL-10) inhibits cytokine synthesis by human monocytes: an autoregulatory role of IL-10 produced by monocytes
In the present study we demonstrate that human monocytes activated by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) were able to produce high levels of interleukin 10 (IL-10), previously designated cytokine synthesis inhibitory factor (CSIF), in a dose dependent fashion. IL-10 was detectable 7 h after activation of the monocytes and maximal levels of IL-10 production were observed after 24-48 h. These kinetics ind...
